Chapter 17

When Sezlix had lost a quarter of its health, it screamed and thrashed. Its ichor sprayed across the room, and Ajax felt sizzles where small droplets hit him.

“Try to avoid the spray,” Ajax reminded the team.

“We can’t avoid this; focusing on managing it is a waste,” Missy snapped as she sidestepped a flailing limb. “Stop distracting us.”

Ajax was not about to get into it now. It would be a waste of effort, and they needed to try to stay united.

Sezlix jumped and clung to the wall before skittering back up into its giant web.

“What now?” Daphne asked.

Sezlix answered by spewing sludge at Adriana, who deftly sidestepped the goo.

Ajax realized at this point there was a substantial amount of the room covered in the tacky green substance. If they did not try to minimize its coverage, then they might not be able to move around the room.

“Adriana, can you try to minimize how much of the floor we cover in that?” Ajax asked.

“It’s just a slight slow. We have more important things to worry about.” Missy pointed behind Ajax.

The pits filled with corpses were starting to shift, and arms were surfacing, tugging at the surrounding bodies to pull something up. Slowly, miniature versions of Sexlix started to pull themselves out of the piles. Each of their eight limbs was a single arm or leg and their heads were just a mass of flesh, lacking Sexlix’s maw. Ajax hoped that meant no spewing ichor for them.

Missy charged the small zombie spiders before using Whirlwind and breezing through them.

Adriana gave Ajax a hesitant look. Was Sezlix going to focus on her, or was she free to fight the adds?

The boss answered by spewing directly on Daphne, who was now caught in the green sludge. She stopped casting and emptied her stomach, adding to the disgusting sludge.

Adriana was already there, trying to help Daphne out of the muck. Daphne was not able to do anything but dry heave.

Ajax joined and managed to pull her free. Unfortunately, not being healed meant that Missy had gotten worn down and had come to a stop away from the minions.

“Adriana, work on the adds.” Ajax cast a shield on her while he tried to comfort Daphne. “You got this, Daphne.” She did not look good. Ajax was worried that she would not be cut out for this.

“Ajax, focus on the boss! We need to get out of this phase.” Missy was back in the fight with the mini-spiders, standing behind Adriana and slashing any that tried to attack her from behind.

He knew they needed to get the boss down before they got overwhelmed, but it wasn’t going to matter if their healer was out for the count. But Daphne seemed to be recovering; her hands lit up and she started healing herself. Ajax turned his attention back to the boss dangling from the ceiling.

“I’m good,” Daphne said, color returning to her face as she put on a look of determination.

With Daphne back in business, Ajax was putting shots into the boss with Sky while Missy and Adriana took care of the adds.
